(Nashville, Tenn.) A program for young adults broadens the spectrum of ages being treated for mood disorders at Rogers Behavioral Health–Nashville.

The FOCUS Mood Disorders partial hospital program is a new service offering specialized outpatient care for young adults age 18 to 30 facing depression, bipolar disorder and other mood disorders. It complements a similar intensive outpatient program for teens age 12 to 17 which opened in March.

Evidence-based treatment in the partial program lasts six hours a day from 9:30 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday, and will accommodate eight patients upon opening. A major emphasis in treatment draws upon therapeutic programming to provide these individuals with the structure and skills they need to better manage their thoughts and feelings and re-engage in life. It’s not unusual for patients with these mood disorders to find their symptoms disrupt their lives tremendously and derail their ability to maintain work, school and family relationships.

“We have chosen to focus on young adults, from 18 to around 30, because this is such a transitional time for them as they move from adolescence to adulthood,” says Vikram Gopal, a psychiatrist with the program. “Ever since we opened the original FOCUS residential program in Wisconsin in 2014, we’ve seen the great need for this treatment. We’re pleased to add this programming to our specialized intensive outpatient care within the Nashville region.”

This same partial program is offered at Rogers’ sites in Wisconsin, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania. “Through our outcome studies at other locations, we are seeing that this treatment reduces depressive symptoms and is increasing the quality of life of the patients we treat,” adds Dr. Gopal.

Rogers Behavioral Health–Nashville offers services for children, teens and adults. In addition to this new program, services include treatment for eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety disorders. For more on programs at Nashville, call 844-615-3221.
